My current area of research is Numerical Methods in Computer Generated and Computational Holography, but I have also been dabbling in computer graphics and vision. You can find a list of my Publications here.

Holography as a science was invented by Dennis Gabor in 1947 and he was awarded the Nobel prize in Physics for his discovery in 1971. The basic idea is to recover the full wave distribution (as opposed to the intensity) from the interference of an object and a reference wave. For visible light the intensity is what you see in a picture: when you move your head you see the same picture from a slightly different view, but nothing in the picture changes. But the full light is what you see when you look out of a window – moving your head makes you see another view!

This is one major difference, and holograms are sometimes thought of as three dimensional images. However they can be used for much more, and not only for visible light. If you want to know more, why don’t you check out Wikipedias page on Holography?

Today there are technologies for both taking digital photographs and showing digital pictures. This makes it possible to record holograms and then process the data in a computer. Or, to compute a hologram of something that does not exist and then show it. The later is called Computer Generated Holography. The former Computational Holography. One can of course do both.

So, this is what I mainly do for both living and fun, but I tend also to be interested in many things scientific. May be I will update this page sometimes soon to talk about more things.
